Kelly's Roses
$95. Click here to buy this painting.
Kelly, who both cuts my hair and collects my art, had this beautiful bouquet of roses in the waiting area of her studio. While the red roses were gorgeous, what I liked the most was the contrast of the bright and dark greens surrounding them.

The New Plants
A few weeks ago I bought several new grasses and a flowering plant for a pot garden in my front yard. I've been so busy lately, the plants are still sitting where I put them, waiting patiently in their box for a permanent home. I love the contrast between the bright sunny greens and corals, and the black plastic nursery pots.

Vodka Limonata
When I ordered a summery drink from a local restaurant, it arrived at the table with the extra juice in this sweet little lemon-shaped bottle.I thought it would be fun to make a still life of all the drink's ingredients.

Swimming Sun
Sold.
Another beauty from my favorite koi pond. This one had such dramatic fins and a beautiful pale color. I love the way the reflections came out on his lower side. It's kind of funny to me to paint something wet with a dry medium, but sometimes it can really work well.

Billow
Sold.
I have thirteen hydrangeas in my studio. Each of the large flower heads is made up of hundreds of smaller flowers. And with well over a thousand of these little flowers within easy reach, and I keep painting this one. I can't seem to get enough of its voluptuous shape and its colorful grays.

Green Peace

While visiting Vashon Island for a show earlier this year, I spotted this sweet-faced green buddha in the window of a secondhand store. I think she looks much happier in my studio window.

Peony Day
I found these giant peonies on the Gonzaga University campus. Full sun isn't typically my favorite painting scenario, but the way these bright flowers contrasted with their dark foliage made them hard to resist.

Hipsters
I think I like rose hips at least as much as I like roses. These beauties were on an amazingly big, old-fashioned rose bush at Manito Park. Their rich red color looked especially vivid on an overcast day.

Dogwood Glow
This painting has sold.
On a walk through Spokane's beautiful Manito Park, I spotted this dogwood in bloom with perfect, buttery yellow flowers. The tree stood in the shadows between two of the park's hundred-year-old basalt rock buildings, and the morning sun filtered through the pines to lightly kiss the flowers. The cool light gave an ethereal, underwater appearance to the scene. I just had to paint it!
